Teaching and Learning

Following in the steps of traditional liberal arts colleges, Oak Valley is focused, first and foremost, on teaching and learning.

Oak Valley’s singular program, the Bachelor of Arts in Business, ensures Oak Valley stays true to this in its operations. An all adjunct faculty model supports this in that professors are hired to teach, not to conduct research or devote considerable time and talent on administration or extra-curricular functions.

Oak Valley invests nearly all its assets on student learning and success. With limited activities and functions, the College is about you, the student, succeeding in life after college through a profession. Courses are aligned with this mission in mind. 50% of coursework is devoted to business, 25% is theology, providing the basis to learn faith principles and build an ethical decision-making framework, and 25% is general education/liberal arts to appreciate lifelong learning, life lessons, and higher education principles. This approach supports Oak Valley’s vision to provide you with a holistic approach to your personal, professional, and spiritual success.

Of course, students still have fun. The nature of student life at Oak Valley is built upon and supported by your academic “family,” which is your cohort of fellow students. This small group of friends and students journey alongside you as you progress through your program and outside of class.

Student activities and engagement allow you to participate in community. Year round events and activities include Spirit Week, a retreat in the mountains, Gather and Grow (a community engagement event each month), mentoring, counseling, and internships.
